Why Tacoma Homeowners Choose Us
Floating Stairs for Tacoma Homes, Old and New
Tacoma has a housing stock unlike anywhere else in the region: grand old Craftsman and Tudor homes in the North End, mid-century houses across the West End, and a wave of modern new construction downtown and on the waterfront. A floating staircase is a strong move in all of them, and each one calls for a different touch.
Floating staircases are the only thing we build. Every one is fabricated in our own shop and installed by the same crew that made it, from the first measurement to the final adjustment. We’ve been bringing that focus to homes across the South Sound for over a decade, and it shows in the fit and finish of the staircases we leave behind.

Floating Stair Services in Tacoma
Why Floating Stairs Fit Tacoma's Architecture
The historic homes of the North End and Stadium District are being lovingly updated by owners who want modern function without erasing the character. A steel-and-wood floating staircase threads that needle, adding a clean contemporary element that plays against original millwork and high ceilings instead of fighting them. We’ve built mono stringers into century-old homes that look like they belong there.
On the other end of the city, the new construction downtown, on the Foss Waterway, and up in the West End is open and modern from the start. Those homes were designed for exactly this kind of staircase, where open risers keep sight lines to the water and the sound clear. Whether the house is 100 years old or brand new, floating stairs move light and views through the space in a way solid staircases never could.
Where We Build Across Tacoma
Our crews work throughout the city: the North End, Stadium District, Old Town, Proctor, the West End, North Slope, Central Tacoma, the Foss Waterway and downtown core, Northeast Tacoma, University Place border areas, and the neighborhoods around Point Defiance. The historic homes and the new waterfront builds are equally at home with our work.
We also serve the surrounding South Sound communities, including University Place, Fircrest, Lakewood, Puyallup, Gig Harbor, and DuPont. If your project is anywhere in the Tacoma area, call or send the form and we will get back to you within a business day.

Stairs & Railings
Pair with Railings
by Custom Railings WA
The railing sets the personality of a floating staircase, and our sister company Custom Railings WA builds them in the same shop as the stairs. Cable systems, steel rail designs, and frameless glass guardrails all come from one coordinated process, so the stair and railing are drawn together and their finishes match exactly.
In Tacoma’s historic homes, a thin steel rail can echo original ironwork without copying it, while in the modern waterfront builds, frameless glass keeps the Sound and the Foss visible from the staircase. Cable railings offer a lighter-budget path to the same openness. We walk you through the options with samples during the consultation.
Mono Stringer
Mono Stringer Stairs in Tacoma
A mono stringer runs one precision steel beam up the center of the staircase with treads mounted to both sides. It’s the most popular system we install in Tacoma, equally at home in a North End Craftsman remodel and a downtown loft. The single clean line of steel under floating wood treads suits both the historic and the modern.
Each stringer is made to order for your opening, powder coated in the finish you choose, and finished with solid hardwood treads. White oak fits the lighter contemporary interiors, while walnut and darker species complement the warm tones of Tacoma’s older homes.
Double Stringer
Double Stringer Stairs in Tacoma
Double stringer staircases place a steel beam on each side of the treads, trading the minimalism of the mono for extra stiffness and design range. Wide treads, long runs, and switchback layouts all sit comfortably on two beams, with a planted, no-flex feel underfoot.
We specify double stringers in Tacoma’s larger homes, including the tall Victorians and Foursquares of the North End where stair runs climb through multiple floors. The two-beam format also carries the heavier slab treads and mixed materials that suit these substantial homes, all built to the exact spec of your space.
Cantilever
Cantilever Stairs in Tacoma
Cantilever staircases anchor every tread into the wall through concealed steel brackets, leaving no visible support at all. It’s the most sculptural system we build, and in both a gutted historic interior and a modern waterfront home, the effect is striking: floating wood planes against a clean wall, nothing else in view.
We coordinate closely with your builder so the staircase integrates cleanly with the project. At the free consultation we’ll let you know honestly whether your space can carry a cantilever, and on a new build it’s the easiest of the three to execute.
