Why Bellevue Homeowners Choose Us

A Modern Staircase Built for Your Bellevue Home

Bellevue has some of the most beautiful modern homes in the Pacific Northwest. Between the new construction going up in Downtown Bellevue and the luxury remodels happening across Clyde Hill, Medina, and West Bellevue, there is a huge demand for stairs that look as good as the rest of the house. Traditional closed-riser staircases just dont fit in these spaces. They block light, eat up square footage, and look dated in a home thats been designed with clean lines and open layouts. Floating stairs solve all of that. They keep sight lines open, let natural light pass between floors, and create a focal point that people notice the second they walk through the door. In a market like Bellevue where home values are some of the highest in the state, floating stairs are one of those upgrades that adds real design value. We’ve installed them in everything from lakefront estates on Meydenbauer Bay to townhomes near Bellevue Square and new builds going up along the 520 corridor.

Floating Stair Services in Bellevue

Why You Need a Specialist Stair Contractor in Bellevue

Floating stairs look simple from the outside, but the engineering behind them is complex. The structural loads, the steel connections, the deflection tolerances, all of it has to be precise.

As a stair contractor serving Bellevue, we work closely with Bellevue-area architects, interior designers, and general contractors. If your designer has a specific vision for the staircase, we can build it. If you don’t have a designer, our team will walk you through every option, from stringer style and tread material to railing type and finish color, and help you make a decision that fits your home and your budget.

Neighborhoods We Build In Across Bellevue

Floating Stairs Seattle works throughout Bellevue, from established residential neighborhoods to newer custom homes and major remodels. Every part of Bellevue has a slightly different architectural feel, so the stair design should match the home instead of looking like a standard product dropped into the space.

In West Bellevue, Meydenbauer, Clyde Hill side, and Enatai, many homes lean toward clean, high-end modern design, where mono stringer stairs, glass railings, and open tread layouts work especially well. In Somerset, Lakemont, Cougar Mountain, and Bridle Trails, we often see larger homes where a floating staircase can become a strong architectural centerpiece. In areas like Newport Hills, Lake Hills, Crossroads, Woodridge, and Wilburton, a custom stair system can help update an older home during a full interior remodel.

We also build for projects in Downtown Bellevue, BelRed, Factoria, Eastgate, Spiritridge, Robinswood, Phantom Lake, Surrey Downs, Beaux Arts, Vuecrest, Hilltop, Tam O’Shanter, and nearby Bellevue communities. Whether the home needs a modern mono stringer staircase, a warmer double stringer design, or a cantilever-style stair system paired with glass or metal railings, we can design, fabricate, and install a staircase that fits the space and the neighborhood.

Stairs & Railings

Pair with Railings
by Custom Railings WA

Our sister company, Custom Railings WA, fabricates the railings that pair with every staircase we build. That makes the full stair package feel more intentional, because the structure, railing style, materials, and finish are planned together from the beginning instead of being handled as separate pieces.

For a modern Bellevue home, that could mean open mono stringer stairs with glass railings to keep the space bright and clean. In a West Bellevue or Meydenbauer remodel, it might be a cantilever stair with frameless glass along the landing. For a home in Somerset, Lakemont, or Bridle Trails, a double stringer staircase may pair better with slim steel handrails, cable infill, and warm wood treads.

Because both teams work closely together, the staircase and railing do not feel mismatched or added later. Whether the project needs glass, cable, or custom metal railings, one coordinated team handles the main design details, fabrication, and installation so the finished result looks complete.

Mono Stringer

Mono Stringer Stairs in Bellevue

Mono stringer stairs use one steel beam running up the center of the staircase. This is the most popular floating stair system we install in Bellevue. It gives you that clean, symmetrical look with a minimal structural footprint.

We fabricate every mono stringer in-house and custom build each one to your exact dimensions. The steel gets powder coated in your choice of color. Most Bellevue clients go with matte black or dark bronze, but we can match any finish.

Mono stringer stairs are a great fit for the open-plan layouts you see all over Bellevue, especially in newer homes around Wilburton, Crossroads, and the Spring District. Because theres only one stringer, the staircase takes up less visual space. We’ve installed mono stringers in tight townhome entries and wide-open great rooms, and they look good in both.

Double Stringer

Double Stringer Stairs in Bellevue

Double stringer stairs have two steel beams, one on each side, with treads sitting between them. The look is a little more industrial and structured than a mono stringer. A lot of our Bellevue clients choose double stringer stairs when they want something that feels substantial and grounded while still keeping the open-riser floating aesthetic.

This system handles wider treads and more complex layouts better than a single stringer. We’ve built these in multi-level homes across Somerset, Lakemont, and Newport Hills where the stair runs are long and the ceilings are high.

Cantilever

Cantilever Stairs in Bellevue

Cantilever stairs are where the floating effect is at its most dramatic. There is no visible stringer at all. Each tread is anchored directly into the wall. The treads literally look like they are coming out of the wall with nothing holding them up. If your going for that “how did they do that” reaction, cantilever stairs are it.

These stairs require a structural wall to anchor into, so they aren’t for every home. But in Bellevue, a lot of newer construction already has the framing to support them.

We’ve installed cantilever stairs in some of the nicest homes in Bellevue, including waterfront properties on Lake Washington, custom builds in Enatai and Beaux Arts, and high-end remodels in Bridle Trails. Pair them with frameless glass railings and LED under-tread lighting and you’ve got a staircase that looks like it belongs in a design magazine.

FAQ

Your Questions Answered

Floating stairs in Bellevue typically range from $15,000 to $60,000+ depending on the stair system (mono stringer, double stringer, or cantilever), the number of treads, tread material, railing type, and the complexity of the layout. Cantilever stairs are the most expensive because of the hidden structural steel required. We provide free on-site estimates for every project.

The timeline depends on the complexity of the stair layout and the tread and railing materials selected.

Mono stringer stairs use a single steel beam running up the center with treads attached to both sides. The stringer is visible. Cantilever stairs have no visible stringer at all. Each tread is anchored directly into a structural wall with hidden steel brackets. Cantilever stairs create a more dramatic floating effect but require a load-bearing wall for installation.

Yes. We install floating stairs in both new construction and existing homes.
